Natural Discovery Play Garden Takes Shape

Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the Little Brigham Aggies Natural Discovery Play Garden at Utah State University Brigham City Regional Campus is beginning to take shape. Just a few months ago, the view from the windows of the Little Brigham Aggies Early Care and Development Center was dismal — an empty concrete lot. The view today is nothing short of a miraculous transformation.

Brigham City Corporation worked tirelessly to prepare the space by excavating and removing asphalt and replacing it with fill and top soil.  Funds donated by USU Charter Credit Union and the Marriner S. Eccles Foundation were used for fencing and concrete work.  Landscape boulders were donated by Staker-Parson Companies. Members of Autoliv’s management team were hard at work from sunrise to sunset last Thursday installing a sprinkler system and creating a park-like setting with a tricycle path meandering around grassy hills, a sandbox and gardens that will be filled with flowers in the spring.  Large, beautiful shade trees arrived early Friday morning thanks to donations from the Brigham City Kiwanis Club, Members First Credit Union, Royal and Elaine Norman, Wal-Mart Distribution Center and Whitaker Construction.

Although the project will hibernate during the upcoming winter months, volunteers will return to work early next spring. Donations from Hansen Motor Company of Brigham City and Wilson Motor Company of Logan will be used to build a bridge and a tree house. Picnic tables will be installed thanks to donations from Vescos Motor Sports and Members First Credit Union.

Children from the Little Brigham Aggies are grateful for the generosity of so many volunteers and donors who have made their dreams of a play garden paradise a reality. Additional sponsorship opportunities for interested community members are available. Click to view a slide show.
