USU Brigham City 2009 Commencement

Utah State University Brigham City held their 17th Commencement on Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Box Elder Middle School. Dr. Andy Shinkle, Executive Director of the Utah State University Brigham City Regional Campus, conducted the commencement proceedings. Associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degrees, as well as Certificates and Endorsements were conferred upon 126 graduates.

Dr. Mary S. Hubbard, Dean of the College of Science, delivered the commencement address. She likened the lessons learned while attending Utah State University to buds which should be nourished throughout our lives to become full bouquets. Full Text

 

Jeremy Barber and Morgan Westergard Christensen were the student speakers. Jeremy quoted a sage named Yoda, “Be mindful of the future, but not at the expense of the present.” Morgan spoke of her love of special education and the joy she has in teaching these students. She mentioned the lessons of optimism and courage learned from students who persevere in spite of great obstacles. She is anxious to continue a career in special education and hopes to obtain a master’s degree in the near future.

The audience was captivated by the angelic voice of Kiera Andreasen who sang our National Anthem. Kiera is a Utah State University Brigham City student majoring in English. Following the commencement addresses, Dr. Victor Harris sang “The Wind Beneath My Wings.” He was accompanied by Shirley Davies. Then, the graduates were presented by Dr. Andy Shinkle and degrees were conferred by Dr. Ronda R. Menlove, Vice Provost of Regional Campuses and Distance Education.

Congratulations Utah State University Brigham City 2009 graduates. What a great example you are to your families, friends, and fellow students. Best wishes and much success to you in your future endeavors.
