17th Annual Bioneers Conference
UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY BRIGHAM CITY
PARTICIPATES IN 17TH ANNUAL BIONEERS CONFERENCE
Utah
State University Brigham City recently hosted the 17th annual Bioneers
Conference on October 20-22. "We were very excited to host this incredible
conference on our campus. I learned so much and will begin to implement some new
conservation practices into my daily life" said Jill Rasmussen, Director of
Student Services at the Brigham City Campus. The Bioneers Conference originated in 1990 with a vision
to bring together people who are working to help their local environment. Based
out of San Rafael, California, the three-day conference was broadcast via
satellite to 15 states, with Utah being the only state to have three sites -
Brigham City, Logan, and Vernal. National speakers addressed a myriad of ways
for individuals to help their environment.
In addition to national presenters, local workshops were
held on landscaping with native plants, reducing toxins in the home,
stewardship, and public transportation in northern Utah. Conference participants
were provided an opportunity to visit the Ogden Nature Center and the Bear River
Bird Refuge. Panel discussions were held on the Bear River Water Issues and the
Ogden Gondola proposal. A keynote presentation on sustainable agriculture was
held Friday evening.
"The conference and workshops were excellent, and the
national speakers were fantastic," said Kevin Young
"Bioneers is a world-class conference. All who attended
witnessed the energetic and vital work being done by people who understand that
the world is changed from the bottom up, by empowering individuals and
communities," stated Nathan Straight.
